Montreal, Quebec, March 10, 2025 - OVA’s 1.1M contract with HMCS Venture, the unit that develops and delivers RCN leadership training, has been renewed. This funding will support the continued development of immersive VR training scenarios utilizing OVA’s StellarX platform to enhance the Naval Warfare Officer (NWO) curriculum.
The project will leverage conversational AI to create dynamic, adaptive training scenarios tailored to individual learners. In addition to scenario development, OVA will provide training, technical support, and consultation to ensure seamless implementation in classrooms.

OVA’s StellarX platform, an AI-enabled VR training software, helps modernize naval training by offering an efficient, cost-effective alternative to traditional shipboard instruction. Simulated environments allow personnel to practice critical procedures without the logistical challenges of accessing operational vessels or incurring the costs associated with fuel, maintenance, and transportation. StellarX also supports consistent, high-quality training both onshore and remotely, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Through these developments, OVA aims to improve knowledge retention, scalability, and accessibility in naval training. The scenarios provide a safe and flexible space for trainees to refine their skills, reinforcing essential competencies while minimizing resource constraints.
This isn’t the Royal Canadian Navy’s first project using StellarX. It was previously used to improve the accessibility and efficiency of naval training. The results of that project are available for viewing here.
Comments from OVA
"Conversational AI is a powerful addition to OVA’s expanding toolset. With this feature, learners in StellarX scenarios can engage in dynamic, interactive conversations where the responses adapt in real time to their questions, needs, or curiosities." - Tim Purdy, Project Manager
